We are pleased to announce updated guidelines for the use of 583 fields to record retention statements.
These guidelines, which are aligned with revised international standards, have been developed as part of the UK Print Book Collection (UK PBC) initiative. Please see below for an update on the UK PBC, and a call to action for anyone planning collection management work.
Update on the UK Print Book Collection (UK PBC)
We’re excited to share the latest developments on UK PBC — a national initiative to preserve and provide access to scarce print monographs across the UK.
Our Vision
A national distributed collection of print monographs with RLUK, SCONUL, national libraries, special libraries and Jisc all playing a role.
This approach will ensure preservation of, and access to, shared print holdings in the UK for current and future users.
Successful Pilots and Autumn Launch Ahead
Following a series of successful pilot projects with a range of libraries, we’re pleased to confirm that UK PBC will officially launch this autumn. We’ll be in touch soon with full details, including:
-
A Memorandum of Understanding for participating libraries
-
Information on membership levels and how to choose the right one for your institution
Planning Stock Reviews This Summer?
If you’re reviewing your print collections over the summer, it would help if you could:
-
Use Jisc Library Hub Compare to check whether an item is among the last seven known copies in the UK
-
If it is, please keep it for now
-
If you’re able to upload the new retention statement, we encourage you to do so.
If you have any questions about the use of the 583 fields please contact nbk@jisc.ac.uk
